Baldwin Park council votes 4-0 to excuse absent mayor and adopt consent calendar

The Baldwin Park City Council on Oct. 1 voted unanimously to excuse Mayor Alejandra Avila, adopted the consent calendar and then adjourned for the evening.
Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Damien made the motion to excuse Mayor Alejandra Avila; Council Member Emmanuel J. Estrada seconded. The roll call votes were Jean M. Ayala — yes; Emmanuel J. Estrada — yes; Manuel Lozano — yes; Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Damien — yes. “Motion carries 4 0,” the city clerk announced.
Later in the meeting the council moved to adopt consent calendar items 1 through 6. Mayor Pro Tem Damien made the motion and Council Member Jean M. Ayala seconded. The clerk recorded unanimous approval with the same yes votes and the motion carried 4-0.
At the start of the meeting the city reported the outcome of a closed session: staff said three active litigation cases were discussed and two of three anticipated litigation items were discussed; direction was given but no further reportable action was disclosed.
Council Member Manuel Lozano made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Council Member Jean M. Ayala; the council adjourned the regular meeting after the item votes.
No ordinances, resolutions or budget approvals requiring separate roll-call tallies were taken during the session; the meeting’s formal recorded actions were the excusal of Mayor Avila, adoption of the consent calendar and adjournment.
