Coventry council names interim solicitors, approves new police chief and accepts resignations

Council members said the votes followed personnel and litigation matters discussed in executive session. The council separately moved to seal the executive-session minutes; that motion passed 5-0.
The body also voted to accept resignations that had been submitted to the council. The council voted to accept the resignation of Council President Hillary Lima and accepted another council resignation (recorded in the minutes) by formal motion; both votes were 5-0 and the resignation letters were entered into the meeting record.
During discussion after the executive session, the council reported that an earlier executive-session tally had appointed John Vadecki and that Mr. Igliuzzi (also recorded in the public resolution) would serve in an interim solicitor capacity; the council said invoices from the appointed firms would be received unredacted going forward.
Council member Capaldi, addressing the newly appointed police chief, said, “I think Coventry’s lucky to have you, sir. Welcome aboard.”
The council said it will place related leadership and organizational items — including a leadership vote — on the Oct. 14 council agenda for finalization.
