County rolls out new public construction website and contractor registration to boost local bidding

The county’s General Services Agency demonstrated a new public-construction web page and contractor registration form on Oct. 7 intended to make it easier for local contractors to learn about and bid on county projects.
General Services staff explained the portal contains two primary sections—public construction and goods and services—with subpages for policy, a contractor registration form, guidance for local contractors on certified payroll, bonds and insurance, and a published contractor list that the county will use to notify registered firms about projects.
Presenters said the county’s updated public-construction policy raises the informal-notice threshold to $75,000, meaning departments will be able to reach out directly to vendors for projects under that amount; purchasing thresholds were raised as well (department-level purchases up to $1,500 and public works informal threshold up to $3,000). The site also links to resources to help local contractors obtain certified payroll, DIR registration and other compliance items.
Why it matters: County officials and several board members said the change could increase the share of public work that stays in the local economy by simplifying the process for smaller contractors. A county presenter said the site is “officially up and running” and encouraged local licensed contractors to register.
Next steps: County staff asked supervisors and public contacts to share the registration link; GSA said they will use the new contractor list to notify vendors of bid opportunities, especially for projects where contacting local firms is appropriate.
