Board approves three-way stop at Berry Road and John Jones Road after neighborhood push

The Yolo County Board of Supervisors approved a three-way stop at Berry Road and County Road 99D (known locally as John Jones Road) north of the Davis city limits after residents and congregants urged action to slow traffic and improve safety.
Residents from the Binning Track neighborhood provided written comments and spoke at the meeting, citing faster traffic, the use of the frontage road as a shortcut, and a growing number of children bicycling to nearby schools. David Hacker read a letter submitted by his spouse urging two stop signs at adjacent intersections; Jill Bonner and Rosanna Seats also described near misses and the presence of dozens of children in the neighborhood.
Supervisor Lucas Frerichs pulled the item from the consent calendar to allow public comment and briefly summarize outreach: he said the county had received a petition signed by 66 residents (43 of 54 homes in the neighborhood, about 79.6 percent) supporting traffic calming at that intersection and noted support from a nearby church congregation.
The intersection control was placed on the consent calendar as item 8 and was approved as part of the full consent calendar. The board’s action will move the three-way stop forward for implementation under county road-maintenance procedures.
Quotations "We have many children in the neighborhood, who ride their bikes back and forth to school… it is kind of a blind intersection at Berry and Sharon… we very much I think the majority of us support putting in a stop sign," resident William Hornoff said.
"We expect those houses will likely fill with children… my son, when he was 13 years old, crashed on John Jones Road on his bike," Jill Bonner said, urging a stop sign for safer routes to school.
Ending The stop sign will be implemented through the county’s standard traffic-calming and road-maintenance process. The placement was approved as part of the consent calendar after supervisors heard neighborhood support and staff’s inclusion of the item on the consent agenda.
