The Town of Lakeville has been awarded $94,000 from a community one-stop grant program to develop a townwide economic development strategy, the Select Board announced at its Oct. 6 meeting.
Town staff and the economic development committee described the grant as funding technical assistance: a consultant will be procured through a formal RFP to lead a kickoff, an existing-conditions assessment, public outreach (including resident and business-owner surveys) and a strategy that looks beyond a single downtown corridor to broader commercial and industrial development opportunities. The Select Board said the Economic Development Committee will help oversee the process and that town staff will publish an RFP for consultant services.
Select Board members and staff said the effort aims to identify actions that can increase nonresidential tax revenue and reduce dependence on residential property taxes. The board thanked the grant writer and staff who prepared the application; no vote was required to accept the award at the Oct. 6 meeting because the award was informational and staff will follow usual procurement procedures to contract for consultant services.
Staff said the project will include community and business outreach and that the EDC will develop questions for surveys in parallel with the RFP process.
