Elections staff summarized the county’s schedule for the upcoming election and asked the Board of County Commissioners to allow staff to concentrate on operations on Election Day.
At the commissioners’ Oct. 23 meeting, an elections staff member identified as Tiana said ballot drop mailings are expected to go out the following week but “with the holiday on the thirteenth, it may take a little longer for them to arrive into people's mailboxes.”
Tiana said the county’s vote center will open Oct. 27 and that the office will observe the statutorily required half day Nov. 1 on the Saturday before Election Day. She asked that on Election Day, Nov. 4, the county close DMV and recording services so “we have all hands on deck for a very, very long day.”
Tiana also said the county is preparing for a state inspection of the vote center and emphasized that “we have all entrances open, accessible, and clear. They are gonna wanna see that,” though she said the county did not yet have a firm date for the state visit.
The elections staff said a large sign-out item (signage) will be completed Oct. 15.
The presentations and questions took place during the meeting’s staff reports; the commissioners did not take additional formal action on the topic during the public meeting.
Details from the meeting: ballot drop mailings expected next week (may be delayed by a holiday); vote center opening Oct. 27; Nov. 1 half-day required by statute; request to close DMV and recording services on Nov. 4; sign-out signage planned for Oct. 15; state inspection date not yet specified.
The county’s elections office and commissioners will proceed with the stated timeline and with preparations for state check procedures, with staff continuing to monitor mailing timing and accessibility concerns.
