Lane County commissioners meet in executive session on personnel matter; public reconvenes Oct. 8 in Blue River

The Board of Lane County Commissioners convened a special session Oct. 7, 2025, at 10 a.m. and moved into executive session to consider dismissal or discipline of a public employee, a staff member said.

Under Oregon law the session was held pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(b) and ORS 192.660(2)(f), the staff member said, and representatives of the news media and designated staff were allowed to attend. The staff member told the media they were "specifically directed not to report on any of the deliberations during the executive session," and that recording or tape of the session was prohibited. The staff member added, "No decision may be made in executive session."

An unnamed commissioner corrected an earlier statement about which statutory subsection applied and said they would recuse themselves from the ORS 192.660(2)(f) portion of the meeting, then rejoin the other portion. The public portion of the special session was adjourned after those remarks.

The board scheduled a return to public session for Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at 6 p.m. The staff member said that public reconvening will take place in the new gymnasium of the McKenzie School District in Blue River. No votes or formal decisions were recorded in the public portion of the Oct. 7 session, and the session notice emphasized that executive sessions do not permit final decisions to be made in private.

The discussion was procedural and limited to the scope described in the statutory citations; no disciplinary outcomes or personnel actions were announced at the conclusion of the public remarks.
