Poudre School District review recommends longer, consistent instructional day; board opens months-long community engagement

The Poudre School District Board of Education on Oct. 7 reviewed recommendations from an instructional-minutes action team that recommends lengthening and standardizing the school day across the district to reduce inequities and create scheduling efficiencies.

The action team presented two primary models: a system‑aligned day in which all schools share the same daily length (illustrative: 7 hours, 15 minutes) and a level‑aligned alternative (different lengths for elementary, middle and high schools). The team also outlined a potential weekly late‑start/early‑release model used by some districts to provide staff collaboration time.

Why it matters: Board members, staff and parents described the proposal as tied to several priorities — more consistent instructional minutes across schools, added time for interventions and planning, improved alignment with front‑range districts, and potential revenue/opportunity gains for early‑childhood programs should the district reach longer weekly hours.
