Claire Burrows, vice chair of the Hartley House board, told commissioners the Hartley House has operated since about 1979, runs a safe house built in 1985 and maintains an office at 900 Main Street. Burrows invited the public to the Festival of Trees fundraiser on Nov. 8 at the Civic Centre and said the shelter’s 24‑hour hotline is (575) 769‑0305.
Clovis Police Chief Throne briefed the commission on local domestic‑violence response, saying, “Just last year alone in 2024, we had 1,100 calls for service for domestics in progress or domestic reports.” Chief Throne thanked Hartley House for its services to victims and survivors.
Why it matters: Hartley House provides emergency shelter, counseling, crisis intervention and education for survivors, and serves multiple counties in the region, the presenters said. Burrows thanked state and city officials for recent support and funding that aided shelter improvements.
