United School Employees of Pasco (USEP) told the Pasco County School Board that tentative agreements for two bargaining units were reached and outlined the ratification timeline.
At the meeting, USEP representative Mr. Larson said the bargaining teams reached tentative agreements “two weeks ago, on September 23.” He reported that USEP’s executive board and the representative council recommended approval, and he described the employee ratification process: information will be posted online and at worksites, informational meetings will be held, and employees will vote Oct. 27–31. Mr. Larson said the board’s ratification vote is scheduled for Nov. 4, per his understanding.
Why it matters: tentative contract terms affect employee pay and district budgets. USEP and district staff described the communications and scheduling steps that will lead to votes by employees and by the school board.
Clarifications on percentage increases: some staff expressed confusion about how the reported increases apply to salaries. A board member asked for technical clarification; a staff member identified as Kevin explained that the percentage increase discussed is “based off the average salary for the groups,” not only off the referendum portion. The board member summarized the clarification as meaning the announced 4.5% overall increase applies to average salary rather than only to the referendum supplement portion.
Next steps: district staff will post informational materials and hold site meetings before the employee ratification vote Oct. 27–31; if employees ratify the tentative agreements, the board is scheduled to vote on Nov. 4.
Ending: No formal board action on the tentative agreements occurred at this meeting; the matter will return for final board consideration only after employee ratification and supportive staff presentations.
