Rodney Poole was re-elected chair and Miss Greenfield was re-elected vice chair of the City of Richmond Planning Commission during the body’s regular meeting. Commissioners also approved nominations to external committees and moved one consent-item referral to the Urban Design Committee.
The commission voted unanimously to keep its leadership in place for the coming term. In separate roll-call votes, the commission appointed Miss Nikia Knight as the commission’s representative to the PlanRVA council and named Victor McKenzie as the commission’s UDC representative.
The commission adopted the consent agenda item sending UDC 2025-05, the Browns Island improvement plan, to the Urban Design Committee for further review. Planning staff recommended the referral so the UDC could examine design details before the plan returns to the full commission.
The roll-call votes were recorded for the leadership and appointments. The chair called for the roll on each nomination; each vote recorded “Aye,” and the motions passed.
The votes and appointments are procedural items that set commission leadership and representation for upcoming work on the city’s code refresh and design review processes. The commission’s newly confirmed UDC and PlanRVA delegates will represent the commission in those forums.
Looking ahead, staff reminded commissioners of scheduled public open houses for the city’s zoning code refresh project and a panel discussion on housing to be held in March; no final actions on the code refresh were taken at this meeting.
The commission adopted staff recommendations on the consent item and closed that portion of the agenda to take up regular agenda items that drew public comment later in the meeting.
