Milwaukee — The Public Safety and Health Committee on Oct. 2 recommended that the Common Council confirm the mayor’s appointment of Erum Zaidin, Ph.D., to the Milwaukee Board of Health.
Commissioner of Health Mike Todoridis introduced Zaidin, who said she has worked as a physician assistant for more than 20 years and has served Milwaukee patients for eight years. Zaidin told the committee her focus is improving access to primary care for vulnerable populations and elevating community priorities to city leadership.
Committee members asked about the board’s advisory role, which Commissioner Todoridis explained is required under state statute and serves to advise the local health department and represent community interests. Zaidin described her experience working with multicultural communities and volunteer organizations, including Muslim civic groups, and said she looks forward to bridging between providers and constituent groups.
Alder Bergellis moved approval of the appointment at the committee. Hearing no objection, the committee ordered the recommendation to the full Common Council, where the appointment will be considered at a subsequent meeting.
Zaidin will appear before the full council for confirmation; the committee noted no objection to forwarding the nomination.
