The William Penn School District policy committee reviewed updates to Diabetes Management Policy 209.2 during a first reading at its Oct. 2, 2025, meeting. Harris, a district staff member, said the revisions are intended to bring the policy into compliance with the Pennsylvania School Code and to require posting Type 1 diabetes fact sheets for families.
The change is “to be compliant with PA school code 24, section 14 dash 14 14.12,” Harris said. He said the district plans to post the Type 1 diabetes fact sheets on the district website and make the materials available to families.
Cook Emery, a policy committee member, said, “We can certainly plan to have that information available with our nurses and make sure they're sharing it with families at the required grade levels beyond posting it on our website.” Roberts, a policy committee member, added that the committee had discussed distributing the materials to K–8 grade families promptly and then adding the fact sheet to the website so “everyone has access to the fact sheet.”
The discussion focused on dissemination and accessibility rather than changes to clinical procedures for students with diabetes. Committee members did not record a formal vote on Policy 209.2 during the meeting; the item was presented for first reading and will return for further consideration under the district’s policy-adoption process.
The policy committee concluded its business and scheduled its next meeting for Nov. 6, 2025.
