Hotel Rain in Inlet Beach continued; neighborhood group says plan conflicts with neighborhood plan intent

A continued application for a 78‑room hotel (Hotel Rain) in Inlet Beach was discussed Oct. 2 and continued to the November 6 meeting so county commission action and additional clarifications can occur.
Tim Brown, Planning and Development, said the county attorney had reviewed the matter and concluded the hotel is an allowable use, but that the county commission will be asked on Oct. 14 to consider an ordinance to correct an apparent drafting error in the Inlet Beach neighborhood plan that affects allowable uses. Because the applicant’s representative was not present, the board agreed to continue the item to the next meeting.
Rich Jaffe, speaking for the historic Inlet Beach neighborhood, told the board the neighborhood plan’s intent was clear and that residents never intended hotel development in that residential community. Jaffe said he and others drafted the plan amendments and secured county and state approvals, and he urged the board to note the neighborhood’s position on record.
The board moved and seconded to continue the item to the November 6 meeting; the motion carried by voice vote.
