Board to review snow-plow contract and van replacement plan; no votes taken at meeting

Wissahickon School District business staff presented two facilities and transportation items Sept. 29 for board review and future approval: a multi-year snow'plowing contract and a proposed purchase of three 10'passenger vans.
Staff said MAK Services Inc. was the only bidder for snow removal services for the 2025'26 through 2027'28 seasons and that the vendor proposed no price increase for the coming year and only modest increases thereafter. "We feel comfortable with moving forward with this bidder because there is no price increase for next year," a staff member said.
On vehicle acquisition, staff proposed trading in two older district vans to acquire three new 10'passenger vans through a cooperative purchase, not to exceed $180,000 from capital reserves. The purchase would increase passenger capacity on some routes; staff said a 10'passenger van can carry more students than a 7'passenger vehicle and provides transport flexibility.
Board members asked whether electric vehicles were an option. Staff said a 10'passenger electric van is not economical at this time, and they do not plan an electric purchase for the 10'passenger vans.
Both items were presented for review and are scheduled for action at a future meeting; no formal approvals were recorded during the Sept. 29 session.
