A consultant presented a draft five-year strategic plan for the Clawson DDA and asked board members to review goals, propose leads and set timelines.
Planner Gifford Webster walked the board through the document, which aligns operational goals with the downtown master plan and includes project-level success indicators. Webster said the draft assumes the DDA will treat the plan as a living document, perform an annual review and assign leads for each action.
Webster asked the board to decide whether administration, a committee or a named individual should lead each listed action and to suggest realistic timelines. He offered to incorporate the board’s choices into the final document once members return the requested input. “The next step is for you all to take this document, spend some time with it between now and your next meeting, and come up with your own suggestions for these two blank columns in the middle,” Webster said during his presentation.
Board members raised a few questions about specific items. One member asked about a proposed “Clawson card” idea, described as a promotional discount or VIP card; the board discussed testing the card with volunteers before broader public distribution. Webster and board members agreed to bring suggested leads and timelines to the next meeting so the consultant can finalize the plan.
The draft will be subject to annual review so the DDA can mark completed items and add priority projects. The board plans to discuss and assign leads at the upcoming meeting and treat the plan as a working document tied to committee work plans and the TIF (tax increment financing) requirements for downtown projects.
