Boise — Airport staff presented a yearlong program on Oct. 1 outlining events and activations to mark the Boise Airport’s 100th anniversary in 2026, with a kickoff on April 6 and a planned close in December.
Shauna Samuelson told the Boise Airport Commission the celebration will mark the airport’s founding date — the first commercial airmail flight that passed through Boise on April 6, 1926 — and will combine historical exhibits, passenger activations and community events to “build an affinity for using Boise Airport.”
Planned activities include an April 6 kickoff with an unveiled mural on the Conrack building, a cocktail reception reimagining a terminal connector area as a “Kitty Hawk Lounge,” and a terminal exhibit and activity space that will remain through December 2026. Samuelson said the exhibit will include a timeline wall of the airport’s history and rotating displays highlighting both past milestones and the airport’s future, including Concourse A.
Additional events described were a downtown presence at the city’s First Thursday on April 9, a family day expected in June 2026 that may include a flyover and static displays, and a possible airmail-flight reenactment. Staff plan to host one to two terminal activations per month tied to nationally recognized days such as Veterans Day and National Ice Cream Day, and to produce a digital archive and a commemorative postcard series that will involve local artists and the city’s arts and history department.
Samuelson said staff are seeking sponsors to offset celebration costs and reported about $27,027 in sponsorship commitments to date. She said marketing-budget funds are earmarked for the program and that staff have been in contact with concessionaires, contractors and other partners about sponsorship participation.
The commission acknowledged the scope of the planning and had no formal votes on the celebration plan. Samuelson said staff will continue sponsorship outreach and execution planning, and noted a closing event in December 2026 that could include a ceremonial groundbreaking for Concourse A.
