York County proclaims October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month; YWCA Hanover outlines services

Vice President Commissioner Burford read a proclamation into the record noting that domestic violence remains a pervasive issue in York County, Pennsylvania and the United States and citing statistics that "1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in The United States [have] experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner." The proclamation called on citizens, churches, human service organizations, schools and businesses to educate themselves and participate in prevention and response efforts.
Rachel Wonder, identified in the meeting as a supervising advocate at the YWCA Hanover, told the board that the YWCA Hanover and its sister agency YWCA York provide a range of services to people affected by domestic violence. "We provide services in your county along with our sister agency, YWCA York. We provide all the services that were listed in the proclamation," Wonder said, listing court accompaniment, help preparing protection‑from‑abuse petitions, shelter referrals and case management.
Wonder also said the agency will host multiple events during October and that dates and details are available on the YWCA Hanover website and social media.
