The Clawson City Council on Oct. 21 set a public hearing for Nov. 18 to solicit comments on the city’s Program Year 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to Oakland County. The county administers HUD CDBG funding for local revitalization and public‑service projects.
City staff told council that CDBG funds are typically used for neighborhood revitalization, home improvement and public services serving seniors, low‑income residents, disadvantaged youth and disabled residents. For program year 2026, staff said the city plans to seek funds for three candidate projects: continued support for Haven for Oakland County (domestic‑violence support), a senior lawn‑care program, and ADA access improvements at Grant Park.
Staff noted the county’s application is due Nov. 5 and recommended scheduling the public hearing for the council meeting on Nov. 18. Council approved establishing the hearing by roll call.
Staff recapped recent uses of CDBG funding, including prior ADA sidewalk ramps (truncated domes) and miscellaneous concrete repairs. Council members said they expect the county to refine the application process and that the city has flexibility to seek different project amounts in different years.
The hearing will occur during the regular council meeting on Nov. 18; the city will collect public comment required as part of the CDBG application process.
