Fire Safe Council reports strong uptake in free vent-mesh home-hardening program

Peter Feller, president of the Agoura Hills Fire Safe Council, updated the council on a free vent-mesh effort the nonprofit launched as part of a broader home-hardening program.
Feller said the program began Sept. 2 and, after three pickup dates in five weeks, the council has logged 86 orders and delivered more than half of those. He told the council the program's funding will cover roughly 400 residents, so the current orders represent about 22% of expected capacity.
"The program ... is a huge success," Feller said, adding that volunteers handled logistics of education, counts, measurements and order creation and that residents have expressed gratitude at pickup.
Feller said the fire-safe group will coordinate with the city when the Community Wildfire Risk Assessment (CWRA) is complete and the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) moves forward; the Fire Safe Council secured funding through the Santa Monica Mountain Regional Fire Safe Council to support the CWPP phase.
