Council approves development liquor license and social‑district permit for new restaurant at 220 South Main

The Clawson City Council on Oct. 21 approved a resolution recommending that the Michigan Liquor Control Commission consider a development Class C liquor license for a new restaurant at 220 South Main Street and separately approved the restaurant’s application to participate in Clawson’s social district.
Council members voted unanimously on both items. The roll calls for the liquor‑license resolution and the social‑district permit showed all members voting yes.
Attorney Chris Tower said the applicant, G and B Clawson LLC, is applying for a development Class C license under state law and that the restaurant will be a modern, full‑service Italian concept with a focus on made‑from‑scratch menu items, craft cocktails and curated wines. Operators Brandon Georges and Goran Dimock, the applicants said, will run the business; they operate Naked Burger locations and have prior restaurant experience.
Nick, city staff, told the council that the Class C development license requested is outside the city’s quota and is intended to encourage downtown development; the business is within the existing downtown development authority boundaries. The applicants also said they plan no immediate exterior building modifications that would require a site plan at this time.
The applicant also applied to participate in the city’s established social district, which was created in July 2021 and allows licensed restaurants in the district to offer walkable, designated outdoor consumption areas under MLCC rules. City staff confirmed the business location is inside the social district boundaries.
Council members welcomed the applicants and approved the necessary local resolutions to accompany the MLCC applications. The applicants said they will continue working with city staff on required state and local approvals.
