Board approves consent agenda and policy second readings; moves to closed session
Summary

At its Oct. 6 meeting the McFarland School Board handled three formal actions in open session: approval of the consent agenda, adoption of several policies on second reading, and a vote to enter closed session under state statute to discuss personnel matters.
The board approved the consent agenda by voice vote. The chair called for a motion on the consent agenda; a motion was made and seconded, and the board chair noted, “Motion carries 4 0.” The consent agenda included the Sept. 15, 2025 meeting minutes and staffing recommendations listed on the agenda.
On a separate motion the board approved the second reading and adoption of a set of district policies as recommended by administration. The motion recited policy references and short titles (as read into the record) and a board member moved the item; the motion was seconded. The list read into the record included items such as board member behavior and communications, consent agenda procedures, leave and sick-leave provisions, entrance age and early graduation, and technical/higher-education scholarship references (policy numbers were read aloud). The board took a voice vote and then completed a roll-call-style confirmation; the minutes record a 4–0 vote in favor.
Finally, the board moved to go into closed session under Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(c) “concerning employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data on any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility.” The chair read the statutory citation and noted the items to be discussed: the district administrator evaluation process, a certified staff member leave request and a certified staff member retirement request. A motion to enter closed session passed on a roll-call-style affirmation with a 4–0 result; the board then adjourned from closed session.
All three items were recorded in the meeting minutes as passing unanimously in public session before the board entered closed session for the personnel matters that will not be discussed in open minutes.
