McFarland High School students outline homecoming schedule, club and academic highlights

A student representative gave the McFarland High School student report at the Oct. 6 McFarland School Board meeting, outlining homecoming activities, club fundraisers, performing-arts productions and recent academic distinctions.
“This is the second edition of the McFarland High School student report for the 2025–2026 academic school year,” the student speaker said, then described homecoming week running Oct. 6–11 and the theme, “Home Sweet Homecoming.” The report listed class themes (seniors: UW Badgers; juniors: Green Bay Packers; sophomores: Milwaukee Brewers; freshmen: Madison Flamingos; staff: Milwaukee Bucks) and the week’s dress-up days.
The student report said the homecoming parade will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m., beginning at Indian Mound Middle School and following Exchange Street to McFarland High School. The homecoming pep rally and an alternate schedule for Oct. 10 were described, and the homecoming dance was scheduled for Oct. 11 from 7:30–10:30 p.m. The student listed this year’s court nominees and said winners will be announced at the Oct. 10 football game.
The presentation also summarized club and athletics activity: McFarland DECA hosted two fundraising games for the UW Carbone Cancer Center; Girl Up completed a service project supplying three menstrual products in school bathrooms; Hope Squad plans a nomination and interview process ahead of final selections in November. Athletics highlights included a boys soccer win over Edgewood, a football victory over Monroe, a second-place conference finish for girls tennis and individual volleyball milestones (a new all-time kills leader and a coach reaching his 100th career win).
Performing-arts dates were shared: the fall play (a live radio play of It’s a Wonderful Life) is scheduled Nov. 6–9, the orchestra concert is Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m., and the annual cabaret (Killer Cabaret) is set for Nov. 15 at the McFarland Performing Arts Center.
Academic recognition included three seniors named among roughly 16,000 semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program and three additional students listed as commended (noting ~34,000 commended students nationwide this year). The student concluded by listing upcoming senior-night dates and other November events.
Board members responded with brief praise for the report’s detail; the meeting moved on after members thanked the student speaker.
