Council members indicated the town expects the project to be offset in part by contributions and other revenue sources and said the improvements are expected to be in place in 2026.
Council members publicly thanked local sports organizations for financial support. According to remarks recorded in the meeting, the Westfield Soccer Association committed $300,000 over five years and the Westfield Lacrosse Club committed $170,000 over five years. Council remarks also referenced a $100,000 payment tied to an AT&T tower agreement and a separate $300,000 park donation identified by staff as additional offsets to the project cost. Council members noted the funds will help benefit town athletic programs as a whole.
The ordinance was moved and seconded on the council floor and carried on a roll call with affirmative votes recorded from the members present. No public speakers addressed the item during its advertised hearing.
Council members and staff characterized the contributions from sports groups as significant to advancing the project; no contractor awards, construction schedule with specific start dates, or financing repayment schedule beyond the bond authorization were specified in the meeting record.
The council did not attach additional conditions or amendments on the record; staff and the Westfield Recreation Commission were thanked for their roles in developing the project and coordinating donor contributions.
