County authorizes new principal account clerk position in Public Health to support transition

The Labor and Civil Service committee approved a resolution creating a principal account clerk position in the Schenectady County Public Health Department. Public Health Director Keith Brown explained the request followed the planned February departure of the department’s long‑time director of finance and said the new position is intended to help with institutional knowledge transfer and administrative workload.

“We are losing our long time, direct director of finance at public health in February. She's leaving after something like 30 some odd years,” Brown said. “To assist with the transition, we're asking for a principal account clerk position that can take some of the more kind of administrative tasks off of that office so that… the outgoing person can spend some real time with the person who's gonna be taking on the bulk of her responsibilities.”

The resolution was moved, seconded and approved in committee and was reported to the Legislature floor. Committee members recorded no opposition in the transcript. The action creates the authorized position; hiring and classification details will follow standard county personnel and budget processes.
