Legislature committee accepts state election funds, approves two-year maintenance contract for voter software

The Committee on Codes, Judiciary and Consumer Affairs reported two election-related items to the Legislature floor: a resolution to accept state funds for 2025 election expenses and prepaid absentee ballot postage, and a resolution authorizing the county manager to contract with NTS Data Services LLC for software maintenance and support for the county voter registration system. County Election Commissioner Darlene Harris described both items to the committee.
“Obviously, the state has provided, pretty much annually funds for us to carry out our elections,” Harris said. “We received $10,621 for our general election expenses. We've already spent that. And we also are provided the prepaid, the $40,000 for absentee ballots and things of that nature.”
On the software item, Harris told the committee the county will remain with its long‑standing vendor. “NTS software is the voter registration program that we've used for a couple of decades now...We are entering into a 2‑year contract,” she said, adding the county’s staff favored continuity because the product is “working” and the vendor provides strong support.
Both items were moved, seconded and reported to the agenda for consideration by the full Legislature. The committee record shows the items advanced without recorded opposition in committee. The measures will next appear on the full Legislature agenda for final action.
