Conway council approves subdivision name, ATAX funding recommendations and HVAC replacement for public safety building

Conway, South Carolina — At its Oct. 6 meeting the Conway City Council approved several operational items: the official name for a new subdivision, accommodations-tax awards recommended by the advisory committee, and the purchase of a new HVAC unit for the Public Safety Building.
Council approved the proposed subdivision name The Reserve at Mill Pond after staff said the plan and street names were reviewed and recommended by the Technical Review Committee and contingent on TRC approval. Councilmember Butler moved approval; Councilmember Jordan seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The council also accepted the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee’s funding recommendations for fiscal-year tourism-related expenditures. Committee chair Mr. Mungo told council the application process yielded about $139,380 in requests and the committee recommended distributing $116,393.97 to qualifying tourism-related activities this fiscal year, leaving a small carryover balance. "From that, we'll make this recommendation... funds available from tourist related expenditure for this fiscal year ending 06/30/2025, to a $116,393.97," Mr. Mungo said. Council voted to approve the committee's recommendations unanimously.
Separately, staff reported that the HVAC unit at the Public Safety Building had reached the end of its service life and needs immediate replacement to reduce operating costs and improve comfort. Staff recommended purchasing a Vanderbilt unit through a cooperative purchasing agreement. Councilmember White moved to approve the purchase; Miss Butler seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
What this means: The subdivision name approval clears a naming requirement under the city's Unified Development Ordinance so the project can move forward in technical review. ATAX recipients will receive funding per the advisory committee's allocation; staff or the committee will provide award letters and expenditure tracking per ATAX guidelines. The HVAC purchase will proceed through the cooperative agreement specified by staff.
