A representative from Housing Solutions New York described a no-cost, four-week series of workshops for youth ages 13 to 21 that focus on stress and anxiety management and offered the committee examples of how the program connects participants to mental-health providers.
Maria, identified in the meeting as representing Housing Solutions New York, told the Education, Culture and Youth Services Committee that the program conducts an initial wellness and psychosocial assessment, provides four weekly workshops, and offers a $50 gift card to participants at the program’s conclusion. She said the program can refer young people with higher needs to mental-health providers and coordinate closely with school social workers.
Maria said Housing Solutions runs workshops in after-school settings, shelters and community centers, and that the program has partnerships with New Directions and Bronx Works. She said the program prefers in-person sessions to preserve “that human connection,” but that it can provide vans, MetroCards or a Zoom option when necessary.
Committee members responded with offers to share contact information and outreach suggestions. Alex Lisonbee said he would forward Maria’s flyer and contact information to committee members and community partners, and a committee member said she would add the information to local outreach lists.
The Housing Solutions representative did not request a formal committee action; the exchange was part of the meeting’s gallery/public-comment period and informational outreach.
