Moderators and town meeting members approved a series of land-use and administrative measures and rejected a motion to reconsider an earlier close vote during the Town of Lakeville meeting.
A previous vote on an item referenced as "Robertson" failed by a single vote (reported as 121 to 61 where 122 was needed), and a subsequent motion to reconsider that result was moved by Mr. Markson and seconded; the motion to reconsider failed on a counted vote. Tellers conducted a hand count; the moderator announced the reconsideration motion failed and the matter was not reopened.
The meeting then moved through a set of zoning and road-acceptance articles, most of them described in brief by presenters as "housekeeping" and routinely approved after voice or card counts. Key outcomes included:
- Article 32: Voters approved an amendment to the zoning bylaw (section 5.1) to change the minimum lot area requirement for the Industrial B district to 3 acres (previously referenced as "same as business" in the chart). The article was presented as a housekeeping change intended to restore a uniform three-acre minimum and was reported as having been heard and recommended by the planning board. The moderator declared Article 32 passed unanimously (announced tally: 178 to 0).
- Article 33: The town rezoned a 1.14-acre portion of Lot 19 off Main Street (owned by Mr. Rolando, described in the motion) from residential to business; the planning board had held a hearing and voted to approve. The moderator declared the article passed unanimously (announced tally: 175 to 0).
- Articles accepting townways (Articles 34–41 and related items): The meeting approved multiple road acceptances and related authorizations to acquire gift or easement interests in ways shown on official road-layout plans (plans on file with the town clerk and dated between 01/31/2003 and 03/22/2004). Names referenced during the motions included Baker's Lane, Hazel Road, Edna Circle, Gunners Way (noted editorially during the meeting), Jennifer Lane, Jamie's Way, Planetary Drive, and Trinity Lane. Most were approved unanimously by voice or card counts. Planetary Drive (Article 40) passed with one card recorded opposed and was otherwise approved by majority vote.
- Article 42 (briefly noted here; discussed in depth in a separate article): A motion asked that the former Ted Williams Camp property be managed for outdoor recreational and athletic facilities and that any new structures serve that purpose; town counsel advised the article is a nonbinding statement of sentiment and outside town meeting's power to direct officers. A show-of-hands count was reported as roughly two-thirds in favor and one-third opposed; the moderator stated the article would not change the legal status of the property.
- Article 43: The finance committee withdrew this article; no funds were advanced under that item.
- Article 44: Voters approved raising and appropriating $50,000 to reserve funds. The finance committee testified support for the appropriation; the moderator declared the article passed unanimously.
The moderator closed the meeting after the appropriation and a motion to dissolve was approved.
