Lackawanna County proclaims October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 1 read and adopted a proclamation designating October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the county.
The proclamation recognized local domestic violence advocates and organizations and called on residents to support survivors and service providers. The resolution printed data from the county’s domestic violence service system for the previous year: more than 1,300 adults and children received crisis and advocacy services; the crisis hotline received 4,000 calls; and 58 families were provided emergency safe housing within Lackawanna County, according to the proclamation read into the record by the commissioners.
The board invited Sabrina Hannon and Mackenzie Major from the Women’s Resource Center to the podium to accept the proclamation and say a few words. A representative from the Women's Resource Center said awareness months “help survivors and their families feel like they are not alone.” The commissioners posed for photographs with the proclamation.
The proclamation text adopted by the board also reaffirmed the county’s commitment to supporting survivors, holding offenders accountable, and encouraging cooperation across agencies and citizens in efforts to prevent domestic violence.
