The board approved a school resource officer (SRO) contract and memorandum of understanding with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office for the 2025–26 school year; approved a package of policy revisions recommended by the policy committee; authorized a field trip for eight FFA students to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis; approved personnel recommendations after a closed session; and adjourned the meeting.
School resource officer contract: The board voted to approve a contract and memorandum of understanding with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office for SRO services in 2025–26. District staff said the contract amount is $533,468.06 and covers six full‑time SROs, an elementary rover/supervisor position and a D.A.R.E. officer who serves elementary and middle schools. Staff named Sergeant Josh Gardner in supervisory role for the SROs and acknowledged Sheriff Jackie Rogers and his staff.
Policy revisions: The board approved a set of policy changes after the policy committee reviewed and recommended them to the full board. The policy committee established a review schedule and recommended batching policy revisions to align with legislative changes and the school year calendar. The motion to advance the policy committee recommendations came from Board Member Woods and was seconded by Board Member Hill; the board approved the recommended policies without objection.
Field trip authorization: The board approved a request from South [South‑region] High School for eight FFA students, chaperoned by teachers Mackenzie Ford and Nicole Fulcher, to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 28–Nov. 1.
Closed session and personnel report: The board moved into closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143‑318.11 to discuss confidential personnel matters and attorney‑client privileged communications related to the initial employment of an individual. After returning to open session, the board approved the personnel report with addendum made in closed session; two board members recused themselves from discussion and vote because they said the recommendations involved immediate family members.
Other routine approvals: Earlier in the meeting the board approved the meeting agenda and prior minutes by voice/hand votes.
