Resident questions origin of referendum mailer; manager says village paid for it

A Ridgewood resident raised concerns during public comment at the Oct. 8 council meeting about a mailer describing a ballot referendum question that was mailed to village households.
Anne Loving said the flyer did not include identifying information about who prepared or paid for it and asked the council to disclose the origin and cost of the mailing. She said the mailer lacked common contact features such as a phone number or QR code and observed that other village mailings include more detailed contact information.
Village Manager Keith replied that the mailer had been prepared by the recreation department staff in conjunction with members of the Open Space Committee, that it was paid for by the village, and that the village attorney had vetted it for compliance with applicable law. He said the recreation department used the same format as its regular program mailers and that staff followed the usual process for public outreach on an ongoing referendum question.
Council member Winograd had circulated the flyer at a fields committee meeting earlier in the week, and the manager confirmed that the recreation staff that prepares other village mailings produced this piece as well.
No dollar amount for printing or mailing was provided at the Oct. 8 meeting; the manager said the item had been handled by the recreation department and open‑space staff and vetted by counsel.
