The Ridgewood Village Council voted Oct. 8 to approve two infrastructure actions intended to advance pedestrian safety work this fall: a change order to the Kingsbridge Lane pedestrian bridge contract and a sole‑source purchase of retaining‑wall blocks for the West Glen Avenue sidewalk project.
The council awarded change order No. 3 to the original contractor, Fred Devons Construction, for $10,383 to address out‑of‑scope items encountered during bridge work, including vertical wall repairs and reinforcement oxidation. Council members said the bridge work had been delayed in prior years and praised staff and volunteers for moving the project forward.
Separately, the council approved a sole‑source purchase of approximately 4,767.82 square feet of Recon Series 50 modular retaining wall block (weathered edge, cappuccino color) from Northeast Concrete Products LLC for an amount not to exceed $183,425. The purchase supports construction of an eastbound sidewalk on West Glen Avenue where slopes require gravity retaining walls. The council cited NJSA 48:11‑239 documentation from the supplier that it is the licensed producer of the proprietary Recon Wall Systems product.
Council members noted the importance of completing the work before winter weather limits construction and thanked residents who agreed to small easements or yard adjustments to accommodate the sidewalk and walls.
