Ridgewood council introduces 2026 Business Alliance budget; one councilor abstains

The Ridgewood Village Council on Oct. 8 introduced the 2026 budget for the Ridgewood Business Alliance Inc., the district management corporation for the village’s Special Improvement District (SID), and set a public hearing for Nov. 12, 2025.
Council members approved the introduction of the budget by resolution. Several council members thanked the deputy mayor and staff for their work to create the organization and draft a budget. Council member Frank said he supported the concept but would abstain from the vote because he wanted more information on proposed board representation for businesses outside the central business district ("tier 2") and representation for nonprofit organizations.
What the resolution does
The resolution serves as the formal introduction of the Alliance’s 2026 budget under NJSA 40:56‑84 and instructs the village clerk to advertise the budget and the Nov. 12 public hearing date. The introduction is the first formal step in the SID budget process; a separate public hearing and final adoption of assessment amounts will follow.
Council concerns and next steps
Council members who voted in favor said they expect the Alliance to broaden outreach to tier‑2 property owners and to consider nonprofit representation on the board. The deputy mayor said those steps are planned as the Alliance develops membership and governance. The clerk will advertise the proposed budget and a Nov. 12 public hearing; the council may vote on final adoption after the hearing.
