Parks and Recreation Director (identified in the meeting as “mister Beaker”) told council prior attempts — adding dirt and changing surface slope — had not solved the drainage problem. The proposed work includes a weeping tile around the infield, drainage “fingers” into the infield and a discharge line tied to an existing catch basin. The director said the contractor expects to finish before spring; some work may continue into winter.
Council members asked about construction impacts to the playing surface and timeline. Staff said additional topsoil would be added and the infield material would be ground and mixed before finishing. The council moved and supported the contract approval; the motion carried unanimously.
Parks staff will oversee completion and report back on project status.
