The Trenton City Council unanimously approved acceptance of a 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) awarded to the Trenton Fire Department to fund equipment and training for surface water and ice rescue.
Fire Department leadership told council the federal award totals $52,602.99. City officials said the grant requires a minimum 5% local match equal to $2,630.16; funding for the match was identified in the department’s firefighting supplies budget (101336754).
According to the department, the grant covers both equipment for surface-water and ice rescue and associated instructor fees and personnel training hours necessary to achieve certification. The council moved and supported acceptance of the grant, and the motion carried unanimously.
City staff indicated the department will complete required grant paperwork and obligate matching funds from the stated account.
