Union County Public Health staff announced a plan to apply to the Delta Dental Foundation’s Smiles for Kids grant program for up to $5,000 to support community dental care for children with financial need.
Tracy, a public-health presenter at the meeting, said the county’s public-health dental clinic would use the funds to expand services and that with the anticipated grant award the clinic expects to serve about 25 to 30 children. Tracy told board members the clinic has applied for the same Delta Dental Foundation funds in prior years and has historically received the award.
A board member asked why the department would apply; Tracy replied that the grant has been beneficial to the clinic in past award cycles. Staff noted that any application and acceptance of funds will be taken to the Union County Board of County Commissioners for review and approval, as required by county practice.
No formal county-level approval of the application was recorded during the advisory-board meeting; staff said the submission and any subsequent acceptance of funds will follow the Board of County Commissioners’ review process.
