Alfredo Pacheco and warehouse staff presented property dispositions Oct. 23 and answered board questions about surplus items and the auction process. The surplus list includes typical electronic equipment, a library bookcase listed at $77,000 (the full shelving unit for a school library) and grouped miscellaneous items (computer mice, cords and older VCR units). Staff said the monetary recovery from sales cannot be estimated prior to auction.
Chief Rodriguez and operations staff said the district uses a public auction platform (Public Surplus) to sell surplus items and that Aldo and the warehouse team are preparing an upcoming auction that will include copiers and printers. "We will make sure to have [the auction link] sent out so you can look at that as well," chief Rodriguez said.
Board members asked about air purifiers on the list; staff said units placed for disposition are usually nonfunctional or damaged and that the maintenance team stocks replacement filters and repairs when cost-effective. Members suggested sharing opportunities for students in trade/technical programs to visit maintenance and warehouse operations; staff confirmed ongoing partnerships with ACE and DACC and said students sometimes intern with mechanics, electricians and other trades staff.
Staff recommended the property dispositions be placed on the consent agenda for full-board action and agreed to provide the auction URL and post-sale accounting details to the board.
