Port commissioners and staff said the port has supported oyster restoration projects and that “Club Seas” (tribal/partner shellfish seeding platforms) remain in place on the breakwater and in the marina. Staff said native Olympia-oyster seed beds are located in front of American Legion Park and that previous community-driven seeding and shell additions have been used to restore local beds.
City and port engineers said they conducted a biological assessment during breakwater construction and that a siltation study connected to electrical and piling work is underway; staff expect data before year-end. The port said pump-out funding will restart in April and that the pump-out grant renewal process is imminent; staff urged continued support to keep boat sewage out of the bay.
Stormwater was raised repeatedly as a priority for downtown, with staff noting the city’s 2019 stormwater manual and long-running investments in vaults and filtration. The city participates in a regional stormwater outreach group that conducts behavioral-change campaigns (e.g., dog-waste pickup, lawn-care practices) to meet municipal NPDES/Municipal Stormwater Permit requirements.
Next steps: staff said they will complete the siltation and biological monitoring data and continue pump-out services and public education campaigns in coordination with regional partners.
