City presents update on move to new City Hall and temporary library relocation; staff honored retiring public-works director

Project manager Sebastian Arango and department directors were credited for coordinating the transfer of records and operations. - Library: Staff reported the library temporarily relocated to the Jackal Community Center (presented in the meeting as the library's temporary location) and that library patrons have been able to access services without interruption. Staff said story times and child-centered activities will continue in the temporary facility while Collins renovations progress. - Collins renovation and other moves: Staff said Collins renovations will continue and that some functions will remain temporarily at Collins until early 2026; departments such as engineering, building and community development completed moves into their new spaces.
Recognition and personnel notes - Albert Carbon: The commission presented a plaque recognizing Albert Carbon for 10 years of service as public-works director in Oakland Park. Staff and commissioners praised his leadership on projects including the new public-works complex and stormwater improvements; staff noted he will continue public-service work in Fort Lauderdale.
Why it matters: Staff said the consolidated downtown City Hall and continuity of services (including library operations) are intended to improve access to city services and help catalyze downtown redevelopment. The move also frees the former City Hall site for the Horizon redevelopment project.
