Commission approves amendments to Horizon Oak Park deal, trimming purchase price and preserving park and amenity commitments

Oakland Park city commissioners on Oct. 22 approved two amendments to the city's long-running Horizon Oak Park redevelopment agreements, trimming the property purchase price by $1 million and amending the development agreement while keeping most public-amenity commitments intact.

The votes cleared (a) the 12th amendment to the purchase-and-sale agreement, which reduces the previously agreed purchase price by $1,000,000 and sets the revised purchase price at about $8,500,000; and (b) the fifth amendment to the development agreement, which modifies certain public-improvement timing and scope while retaining key public benefits the developer agreed to deliver.

Why it matters: The Horizon project is the largest downtown redevelopment the city has advanced in years. City officials said the changes respond to higher construction costs, insurance and financing pressures and shifting market conditions while protecting core public benefits the commission prioritized: a new Greenleaf Park, a Woonerf (living street) and a public parking component.
