Danville board adopts district improvement plan alignment, backs Illinois Vision 2030 resolution

The Danville CCSD 118 Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution supporting Illinois Vision 2030 after district administrators reviewed the district improvement plan and explained how local goals align with the state’s initiative.
Administration presented the district’s mission and three SMART goals: increase the number of students meeting or exceeding on state assessments by 10%; reduce chronic absenteeism to 25% or lower; and use a multi-tiered system of supports to reduce suspensions and expulsions by 15%. District staff described how local assessment tools such as FastBridge, benchmark and formative assessments, PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and the SWIS data dashboard support those goals.
Associate Superintendent Marquisha Parker and several directors — including Kim Papp (human resources), Justin Thorlton (assistant director of HR), Molly Bailey (special education), Chris Rice (early learning) and others — said the district is aligning building improvement plans with the district plan so principals and teachers can track student growth, attendance, behavior and other indicators that contribute to state designation scores.
Superintendent John Hart and board members highlighted attendance initiatives, including home liaisons in every building, standardized attendance letters, partnerships with the Regional Office of Education and targeted outreach to students who are trending toward chronic absenteeism.
A board member emphasized the resolution’s language calling for education-improvement proposals to be developed in collaboration with families, communities and businesses. The board approved the resolution in a roll-call vote of 7–0.
