The Augusta Georgia Planning Commission approved several routine rezoning and special-exception requests, postponed two items and forwarded recommendations to the full commission for its Oct. 21 meeting.
Postponements: Two items were read into the record as postponed to November: Z-25-35 (Connect Development LLC on behalf of NRP Residential 1 LLC) and SV-25-03 (subdivision variance petition by Jennifer Heath on behalf of Elaine Cook).
Approvals forwarded to the full commission (brief): - Z-25-33 (Crawford): Rezoning 0.5-acre parcel at 2721 Peach Orchard Road from B2 to R1A to enable sale to a long-term tenant; staff recommended approval and the commission approved and will forward the recommendation. - Z-25-37 (Eldry): Rezoning 0.21-acre parcel near Heard Avenue and Walton Way from P1 (professional office) to B1 (neighborhood business) to provide flexibility for residential rental or small business uses; staff recommended approval with conditions including buffer strips and possible parking variance; commission approved and forwarded the recommendation. - SC-25-12 (Moses Missionary Baptist Church): Special exception to bring an existing church and its multiple parcels into zoning conformance and to allow two monument signs on a 1.43-acre collection of parcels; staff recommended approval with sign permits required and the commission approved.
Each of the above items was heard with staff presentations; in most cases staff recommended approval with standard conditions (site-plan approval, buffers, compliance with tree ordinance and other rules). Where required, applicants accepted staff conditions and the commission’s approvals will appear on the Oct. 21 full commission agenda.
