Louisa County Resource Council reports rising demand; expands volunteer operations and food-storage capacity

Lloyd Runett, executive director of the Louisa County Resource Council, told the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 20 the nonprofit has seen rising demand for food and other services and has taken steps to expand capacity.
Runett said the Resource Council increased volunteer hours substantially in 2024 and that it is now running a continuous nonperishable food drive to keep supplies on hand. He told the board the organization added a walk-in refrigerator to extend the shelf life of perishable donations, renewed a partnership with Hunters for the Hungry that produced about 12,000 pounds of venison last year, and expanded volunteer capacity through the Volunteering Louisa program.
Runett reported the Resource Council is serving about 1,900 households monthly and that the number of individuals served rose about 11% during 2025. He described a rise in multi-generational households as one reason the organization is seeing larger household sizes and greater demand.
Runett urged residents to volunteer, donate nonperishable foods and contribute financially if possible, and said the group is confident it can meet rising demand with local support. He noted the Resource Council does not rely principally on federal or state aid and that local partnerships and foundation grants support most operations.
Ending Supervisors praised the Resource Council—s work and asked about specific needs. Runett said volunteers, food and donations are the most helpful items and mentioned plans for the organization—s annual Santa program.
