Board asks staff to study scooter and moped incidents at schools after recent accidents

Superintendent Dr. Vasquez said the district has seen an uptick in scooter incidents — citing a recent Lake Nona crash — and that principals are frustrated by unsafe riding near campus. "We probably do need to have a conversation that explores not just limitations, but possibly not allowing them on our campus," she said, and promised staff would pull incident data and bring a fuller proposal to the board.
Member Bennett urged board members to contact county commissioners about possible local ordinances; Member Ferrant and others praised principals and staff for attention to the issue. The board did not adopt a policy at the Oct. 14 meeting but directed the superintendent to schedule a follow‑up discussion and to compile incident data for next consideration.
