Sherry Smith elected chair of Cultural and Environmental Learning Center Advisory Board; Ellen Vaughn named vice chair

Sherry Smith was elected chair of the Cultural and Environmental Learning Center Advisory Board (CELCAB) at the board’s Oct. 23 meeting in Fort Myers Beach, and Ellen Vaughn was chosen as vice chair.

The nominations were made and approved by voice vote during the meeting. Becky Warner, a CELCAB member, moved to approve Smith’s nomination, saying, “I move approval of the nomination of Sherry Smith for president, chair.” A board member seconded the motion and the board responded “Aye,” after which Smith assumed the gavel and the meeting proceeded with Smith serving as chair.

The board later confirmed Vaughn for vice chair after a nomination and a second and a voice vote of “Aye.” The meeting packet and roll call show returning and new members on the board; Lori Wolf was introduced as a new member, and Carrie Henderson was excused.

Administratively, members agreed to table approval of the minutes from the previous meeting (September) so members could review them more closely; the minutes will be brought back for a vote at the board’s next scheduled meeting in November.

The leadership changes come as the board prepares to engage on the townwide strategic plan and several Mount House operational items on CELCAB’s agenda.
