Board members said they will follow up with an intergovernmental staffer when she returns from vacation and then contact principals directly if necessary.
At the Oct. 20 meeting board members agreed to request that schools submit participant names by December (a specific deadline was discussed as “by December” but not fixed to a particular day) so principals can confirm students and practice in advance. Members said last year several registered students did not attend and some teachers appeared unprepared; this year’s word list was described as easier and more progressive across grades.
Logistics discussed during the meeting included use of a standing microphone, a decorative arch, ensuring the venue’s air conditioning, and that the spelling bee trophy has been donated. Members also discussed creating a group chat for participating student government (SG) representatives and following up with the school advisors who had not responded.
No formal vote was taken. The board set a follow‑up timeline: contact intergovernmental staff next week, confirm schools’ receipt of the word list, and finalize participant lists in November–December ahead of the January date. The board said it will review logistics and promotional elements at its November meeting.
