The Saint Paul City Council unanimously adopted a resolution declaring October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month and heard remarks from Shelley Klein, director of the Saint Paul Intervention Project (SPIP), who described the agency’s 24/7 work supporting survivors.
Klein told the council that SPIP serves more than 6,000 victims each year and that the agency works closely with city partners and first responders to reach victims “in the times that they're experiencing some of the worst moments in their lives.” She thanked the council for its ongoing support and for partnering with community shelters and medical providers.
Councilmembers offered remarks of thanks and emphasis on the continuing need for services. Councilmember Johnson noted elevated needs seen during the pandemic; Councilmember Yang highlighted the importance of staff reflecting the communities they serve and said her office continues to send referrals. Several councilmembers cited the Ramsey County–Saint Paul hockey fundraiser as an important annual event for the agency.
The council president read the resolution’s final paragraph affirming that “living free from domestic violence is a fundamental human right” and formally declared October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The resolution passed 7-0.
The council and agency asked residents to be aware of local services and partners; no new funding was adopted in this agenda item.
