Wilson said the county believed some duties performed under that agreement took deputies outside the scope of the contracted work and increased liability. Wilson said efforts were made to work the matter out but the court elected to use a different security approach.
The board approved an interlocal agreement with OCHN to formalize mental‑health and psychiatric services already being provided at the county jail; that agreement was described as having no financial impact this fiscal year. The board also approved an interlocal participation agreement to expand the sheriff’s search‑and‑rescue team, adding the Troy Police Department and Highland Township Fire Department as signatories; the board will review each new signatory as it is added.
The board approved a template agreement for providing law‑enforcement services at special events when staffing is available (staff described the template as intended for requests such as large sporting events). Commissioners also approved a transfer of ownership and release of claims for a county canine, Blue, who is retiring after nine years of service and has been replaced.
The board accepted a grant award from the Auto Theft Prevention Authority described in the meeting as $1,100,000 in state funding with a grant match of "1.9," resulting in a total described as "a little over $3,000,000." The sheriff’s presentation noted multiple partner agencies and described the auto‑theft task force as an interlocal partnership that includes personnel assigned under existing contracts.
Finally, the board approved an application to the U.S. Department of Justice for the 2025 DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction program in the amount of $420,000 to support three full‑time forensic lab analysts in the county lab.
All seven sheriff’s‑office items were approved in the single vote recorded at the meeting.
