Local after-school sites promote Lights On After School open houses in October

Representatives of YSS and AIMS presented the city council with details about their after-school programs and invited the public to “Lights On After School” open houses in October.
Denia Steinhoek and another coordinator, identified in the meeting as Nikki, described programs that serve kindergarten through sixth grade at most sites and preschool at United. Steinhoek said the program covers early-outs, late starts and school breaks, provides full-day programming during non-school days and offers scholarships on a sliding-fee scale for families who need financial assistance.
Steinhoek said United’s event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Nikki said Legends Elementary will host an event on Oct. 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The coordinators described themed activities for children and noted that enrollment varies by site: one site reported about 62 children enrolled with some capacity to add more and another said enrollment planning accounts for up to 50 and seasonal variations.
Council members thanked the presenters for the information. No formal council action was required.
